Re: Beware the congestion charges in London
So I thought a trip into London would be completely free of charges……not so. Firstly the ULEZ emission fee is free….but you have to enter your reg and it confirms the car will not need to pay. But the congestion charge…… you need to pay a one of fee of £ 10 online which then gives you free access t...

Re: Wonder if I should cancel ?
Teething problems. The ID.3 is about a year old and so the big majority of the issues for the early adopters are now behind us. I’ve had trouble-free motoring for many months and it is definitely my best car ever. There may be a few niggles but that’s the same with any car….

Re: OTA Update just occured!
I haven’t seen this yet but it would be very helpful if the displayed message told you how long the update will take. Or is that asking too much of VW? With all of the issues over the 2.0 update, we need confidence that we are not going to have an unusable car for hours, or even days if things go wr...

Re: HELP! Car not starting /
This heat causes some funny warning messages to be displayed. Mine told me that I couldn’t select forward or reverse because a charging cable was plugged in! Needless to say there was nothing plugged in and the warning message disappeared after a few seconds.

Re: Orange warnings during storm
I recall this is mentioned somewhere in the manual – that the sensors may not work in bad weather. It also happened to my ID.3 but after the very heavy rain cleared, so did the warnings.

Re: Close the door before starting to charge!
I rolled up to an Osprey during the week (in Derby) and pretty sure left the door open while plugging in and authenticating with the We Charge card . All worked fine, and I routinely open and close the door when CCS charging with no issue. Can't say I think too much about whether the door is open o...

Close the door before starting to charge!
Here’s an odd one. I was trying to charge at an Osprey charger the other day. It wouldn’t accept my We Charge card on the RFID reader but that’s another story. Instead I was using a bank card which was recognised and £5 was pre-charged to my account. I plugged in and pressed the start button to star...

Re: New ID3 today - using "B" drive mode?
I used to be a B driver but now I’m almost exclusively a D driver. Two reasons: applying the brake pedal gives regen first so the energy recovery should be the same as in B I like the automatic partial ACC feature where regen braking is (usually) applied when coasting and approaching bends, junction...

Re: Speed limits on minor roads
Ever since the software upgrade my car thinks the speed limit on all roads other than major roads - so all country lanes and B roads in the UK - is 30mph. On A roads it correctly reads the road signs. Very annoying! Anyone else suffering the same problem? Yes. I get exactly the same here is deepest...

Re: I'm a bit worried about the range
I assume it says the same range on the display in the car? This is the range you might expect from a 58kWh battery at 80%. Maybe there’s a software parameter that hasn’t been set correctly. One way to check is to drive it until it drops to 70% charge. If it does about 21 miles then it’s a 58kWh batt...

Re: Keyless entry unlocks cable when charging.
I don’t have an answer to your question but this behaviour seems to have changed for the better in the v2.1 software (maybe v2.0 too). In earlier software it was often difficult to unlock the charging cable, requiring multiple presses on the key fob and/or stopping charging on the infotainment scree...

Congratulations on being an ID.3 owner! As scott28tt indicates, I hope you've had EV experience before. That journey is eminently feasible but EV rapid charging does have its nuances if you've not done it before....

Re: Hear Alex Voigt talk about VW and the ID.3
Thanks for highlighting this, but it really hasn't improved my warm feeling at having bought a VW, in fact I now wish I had bought a Tesla. I had avoided thinking "dieselgate" as it seemed unfair to blame VW for past poor practices, but this appears not to be case as the company avoids fi...

Hear Alex Voigt talk about VW and the ID.3
A Fully Charged podcast has just been released that is highly recommended. It is a recording of a chat between Robert Llewellyn and Alex Voigt, a sometimes controversial German engineer and commentator on the German automotive industry. The title is a little misleading as the talk is mainly about Ge...

Thanks for the warning. Related to this I've often wondered what would happen if you select R by mistake instead of D/B when driving.....?

Re: 2.1 upgrade software has been updated
Some people have received a printed readme on completion of the recall, which I haven't seen, so an updated version for the new patch may be a step in the right direction. Here is the Table of Contents of the " readme ID.3 Edition 01.2021 " booklet that was left in the car. IMG_3167.jpeg ...

ID.3 1st Edition updated to 2.1 today. There seems to a lot of variation in the versions of various hardware & software components.

Re: 2.1 upgrade software has been updated
If I was in your situation (which I might be soon), I would want to understand a more about the nature of the software issue that led VW to tell you the control unit hardware was faulty and how they made a mistake and actually it is a software problem. It would seem reasonable for VW to be more ope...

2.1 upgrade software has been updated
My ID.3 has been in the dealership for over two weeks because it failed the 2.1 upgrade due to a faulty control unit. These have been on back order hence the delay. One arrived with my dealer yesterday but it was not required because VW have “updated the software that performs the 2.1 upgrade”. Usin...

Re: Wifi connection
A guy who had his car on his WiFi and scanned the network traffic going to and from the car to see what it was doing, there was nothing app-related. He also discovered that the car goes to sleep (ie. drops off his WiFi network) after a short period of time, which is no use for car <> app communicat...
