Re: How much does speed affect range?
If you watch some of the videos Tesla Bjorn does you get some good information. He also publishes all his test info so for instance on a test with the ID3 Max 1st Edition it shows that the difference between 90 and 120 km/h is almost 50% more consumption. VW ID3 1st Max 62 kWh Summer Dry 18 Bridges...

Re: Sudden drop in range :(
Hi, Just adding in my experience here. Had a previous EV (i3) - never knew about charging problems charging to 100% so only ever charged it to 100%, sometimes then not driving for two weeks. I heavily doubt two full charges would have had any damage on battery. In my experience of both cars, the gue...

Re: Motorway speed power consumption
I personally think that people can charge to what they want. I would have no idea if that person is doing another 200miles and needs 100%. Leaving a car in a charging bay without charging is not acceptable, but going to 100% is a personal choice. Its not his fault its the fact there are not enough ...

Re: Motorway speed power consumption
I agree with daveion Just enjoy the ride and relax Yep me too! Since we moved over to EVs, it was initially efficiency that I was obsessed with but then I realised that I enjoyed cruising at 65mph on motorways and generally just enjoyed the journey more! When charging infrastructure was worse (the ...

Re: Motorway speed power consumption
1. The speed limit is 70 2. I don’t work in kWh/mi but you should get a range reading of 220-240 miles I expect, so I guess that makes it about 4kWh/mi 3. Battery pack is 58kWh usable, 62kWh total Absolutely point number 1. - you're breaking the law going about 70 so shouldn't be going above this. ...

Re: Summer Range - How is everyone getting on?
Mine indicated 239 last week, but realistically it's 200 miles. First, I like to arrive with 5-10% state of charge, no less. And secondly, I think the ID.3 range indication is slightly optimistic. I was doing 70 miles/hour and range went down a little bit quicker than it should, but no more than 10...

Re: Summer Range - How is everyone getting on?
Great to see so many positive comments! I think the warmer temperatures are what makes this car have an "average" range of over 200 miles for the year. For us it has been a game changer. Whilst I loved my previous EV, 100 miles range meant every journey out of Devon required a charge stop....

Summer Range - How is everyone getting on?
When I first joined this forum, many were worried about the real world range after disappointing figures over Autumn and Winter. I thought it would be interesting to see how people are feeling after having acclimatised to the car and also with warmer days (at least here in Devon!). We did a 170 mile...

Re: New way of driving
When I did a test drive with petrol Peugeot 208 (EV was no out jet) to feel the interior and size, I wondered, that petrol car had also (switchable) range meter instead of L in tank. Also started to drive more calmly. If you know, you can accelerate, you understand, you don't have to do it. You don...

Re: New way of driving
I must agree with several other people that the iD3 requires a new way of driving. I have been driving for 55 years and I've spent more time in the last six months looking at the guessometer miles left than i ever looked at my fuel gauge in all my previous cars. I also have to avoid the word IDEA w...

Re: Totally dead
I'm a bit bemused as to why you need a lead acid battery. Its adding all that extra weight and taking up space. If vw felt the need for extra electric capacity why did they not put in a slightly higher rated main battery. I'm sure any need for reserve power, segregation of supply and voltage differ...

Re: Charging speed units
I took delivery two days ago and all going well so far, apart from one thing I can't seem to find the answer to. I noticed on a lot of online videos when connected to a charger, people are quoting how many kW they are getting. However mine seems to quote it In miles per hour. Not that it's the end ...

Re: I'm a bit worried about the range
Check out the EV database https://ev-database.uk/ for "real world" figures for the car - this gives an indication of expected range in all conditions. WLTP is very misleading, not impossible but implies very best conditions at all times.

Re: I'm a bit worried about the range
Great drive out yesterday, only a 30 mile round trip but 4.9mi/kWh, showing 92 miles at 35% by end of joruney! Very happy with these stats - AC off, Eco mode, B mode on all the time, mixture of motorway, country B-roads and coastal roads. Massively helped by 20/30mph zones near destination I think. ...

Re: I'm a bit worried about the range
I have had to increase my mileage recently and with slightly better temperatures see a regular projected range of 250+. After charging Im seeing better than 200 miles at 80% charge. I have a nervous passenger so on longer runs Im around 65mph or so. When I drive solo Im a bit more rapid but the jou...

Re: 2 Weeks with my ID3 Life
My experience was different, but might not have been... I bought mine from Marshalls in Taunton. I don't live in Taunton and the town where I do live has a VW dealership (who shall remain nameless). I tried them, they were as useful as a chocolate teapot. I wrote a letter of complaint, and didn't g...

Re: I'm a bit worried about the range
Ours spends a great deal of time commuting on the motorway and 80% gives around 135-145 depending on weather and if driver kept to anywhere near 70! Maximum we have seen is 165, but it’s not driven for economy at all ! Wow! After a (pre lockdown) winter drive from Devon to Cambridge and back, we go...

Re: 2 Weeks with my ID3 Life
Lack of information from dealer: They should really explain to you about battery conditioning affecting charging speed. They should explain about charging between 20-80% to prolong battery life. He literally sent me out the showroom with 95% charge and a kick up the backside. He only seemed concern...

Re: Best practice heating
Preheating from battery doesn't make any sense from a battery saving perspective. The car will need to get the temperature whether it's standing stationary or if it's being driven along. It will arguably be more efficient to wait until you are in the car for two reasons. 1. You are in the car provi...
