Hi Just bought extended warranty from VW. would it not effect warranty , if serviced any other than VW. One of the obligations listed on the Extended Warranty document is: "You must make sure your vehicle is serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations". So it appears th...

Re: Two year inspection
That's what I did last December, partly due to the cost and partly for convenience. So far I've got no regrets.
I think the checks were just visual checks for faults, but it wasn't anything that would require specific knowledge of the ID.3.

From the Octopus website (my emphasis): Which cars work with Intelligent Octopus? Currently Tesla, Jaguar, Land Rover, Ford and Volkswagen (excluding ID models) . Integration with Jaguar, Land Rover, Ford and Volkswagen is facilitated by a third party. Weโre always working on adding more to this list!

Do I need to have my service done by a VW dealer?
The first service on my 1st Edition is nearly due. From what I can gather it consists of an inspection, brake fluid change and pollen filter replacement. For several years I've taken my VWs (2 sciroccos and a Caddy) to a local garage with no problems. I asked him about doing my ID.3 service and alth...

Re: New rear tyres at 12000? Really?
I've just had to replace my rear 19" Bridgestone Turanzas at 14.5k miles, although they were very marginal for the final 500 miles or so. I've read so many negative comments about the Bridgestones that I've replaced them with Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance SealTech, so it will be interestin...

VW to ditch capacative steering wheel buttons
It probably won't happen any time soon, but I for one won't miss them.

Re: Portable inflator
Just out of interest, why would anyone want to deflate EV tyres? I've read that here in the UK campaigners have been letting down SUV tyres as a protest at their gas-guzzling, but EV vandalism makes no sense to me.

Re: 2.4 update and battery replacement
So are you saying that before the car went in for the update, the aircon was fine, and not so when they brought it back? If so, doesn't sound like a dealer I would want to give business to. My wife took the car back to them on Friday. After inspection, they decided to book it in, but while she was ...

Re: 2.4 update and battery replacement
Murrays in Newton Abbot picked up our 1st Edition on Tuesday morning and brought it back lunchtime today (Thursday). My wife noticed that the "mature gentleman" who drove it was sweating, but thought no more about it. However when she took it out later she found the ventilation system wasn...

Re: Tyre Wear
While we're on the subject of tyre replacement, it looks as if I'll have to replace my rear Bridgestones before the winter, while the front ones are still in pretty good shape. Is it OK to replace just the rear ones (possibly with Michelins) or is it advisable to replace all four at one time?

Re: Tyre inflating via 12v socket
Yes, you are missing something. You need to turn the ignition on and leave the keys in the car. You can then carry on with pumping up the tyres.

Re: Is it OK to use a granny charger as my main charger?
Thanks everyone for your replies and advice. As my granny charger is conveniently plugged into an existing 13A socket in an outbuilding I'm thinking I'll probably stick with it for a year or so to see how it goes. Even though it means losing the grant, it will certainly avoid a lot of disruption. As...

Is it OK to use a granny charger as my main charger?
My circumstances aren't typical of the usual ID.3 user: we have a 9kWh solar panel setup, and have recently installed a 9.5kWh battery backup system to maximise the use of our solar generation. I have also been thinking of getting a charger before the 31 March deadline, but I'm having second thought...

The figures quoted by VW and other manufacturers are for travellling in ideal conditions - which you will experience only in the warmer weather this coming summer. It has been discussed here on several threads; here's one to get you started: https://www.id3forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1744&a...

Re: 2.3 software
I'm another one who had the invite on 1st October and I'm still waiting. Although the delay is getting beyond a joke, as there's nothing particularly earth-shattering about 2.3 I thought I'd wait until I get called in for the dealer to do the 2.4 update, but I have no idea when that's going to be.
