Re: Do you follow VW advice on battery charging?

With the 40% limit I believe best practice would be to plug in as soon as you stop (whilst there is warmth in the battery) to get back above 40%. You can then pause and make use of say an overnight cheap rate. This is what I've done when making a long journey ending at home. But obviously that's no...

Re: Do you follow VW advice on battery charging?

I think its VW covering their backsides - that if its really really cold - the battery heater may chew up 5% or more - dropping you closer to that 20% when you start up or if you go on a very short trip. Imagine the worst case scenario that its -10, and your car is covered in half a metre of snow -...

Re: Do you follow VW advice on battery charging?

What do people do about the 40% minimum winter charge for long trips? This isn't a problem when I'm going home since I can just plug in immediately, but if I'm going somewhere without a charger should I be stopping at a rapid charger close to the destination to make sure I don't leave the car sat ov...

Re: Zap-Map vs ABRP

The other thing is that one of the updates discussed for 3.0 (I'm not sure if it's definitely in) has been preconditioning of the battery when navigating to a charger. If that happens, I bet it will rely on you using the in-car nav or wecharge. Which incidentally will be annoying because wecharge d...

"Essential charging" stops on satnav

Is there any way to make the satnav less premature in automatically adding "essential charging stops" to a route? It seems to want me to charge when I have a good 60 miles or so of range left. I know I can turn this feature off entirely, but its pretty hard to manually figure out where I n...

Re: Electricity qnd gas price hikes!!!

Octopus fixed rate gas tariffs are absolutely horrendous though. I think I was quoted 8p a unit! You’d probably be better off just switch your electricity. My current supplier doesn't do single-fuel gas tariffs, so I would need to find an alternative gas supplier anyway. But Octopus wouldn't even t...

Re: Electricity qnd gas price hikes!!!

With the current advice being to switch to a fixed tariff if you can get one less than 40% higher than the cap, I've been trying to switch to Octopus Go (which is 40.6% higher for me, but obviously has very cheap night rates which would make it worthwhile). Unfortunately Octopus say that since I'm n...

Re: Ohme Charge. Data charges possible

Interesting: I left my preferred times the same (00:00-06:30) but set a 07:00 departure time. This time is charged from 40% to 77% by 04:30, stopped charging, then started again at 06:17 and hit the 80% target at 06:29.

Re: Ohme Charge. Data charges possible

I've had an odd one the past couple of days... I've been charging the car off a granny cable since we got the car before Christmas, with the preferred charging times set something like midnight until 06:30, no departure time set, max charge 80%. It always misjudged the charge speed, so by 06:30 it w...

Re: Ohme Charge. Data charges possible

However if it was still plugged you can switch on maximum charging from the app to override the schedule or I suppose you could create one for 100% during the time the preconditioning would happen and turn off the unit cost charging restriction from the app if you needed the range. Yes, just seems ...

Re: Ohme Charge. Data charges possible

Unfortunately this won’t work properly with the ID3 from what I can tell as it can’t access the car from an API yet! Will be good when it can though. I have queried ID.3 API integration and Ohme told me that it's on the 2022 roadmap but they can't give a time frame. I did ask them if they have an A...

Re: Not using car as much...

That’s a Mini Electric, unless I’m mistaken. So no old-fashioned “engine” there 😂 I wonder whether the squirrel likes snuggling up to the nice warm inverter. He certainly likes his nuts… Must admit I have been worried about cats going to sleep under the car and not realising its about to move becau...

Re: Suggestion for good Electric Charging Cable (230V 1AC) 3 pin

I've been using the VW granny charger since the car arrived 2 weeks ago (the dealer chucked it in as a freebee because they had made a huge cockup that delayed me getting the car). Works fine, but I probably would've bought a cheaper brand if they hadn't thrown it in for free. 7Kw charger install ne...

"Hello ID, defog windows"

"Defog windows" is listed by the help screen as a voice command, but when I use it I get "function not available". Any ideas? (ID3 1st with version 2.1 software) Most other climate control commands work through the voice interface, although it consistently fails to "turn off...

Re: Reversing speed

Much better with auto-hold disabled, but no way to do that directly from the reversing camera screen as far as I can tell. Swiping down from the top of the screen to access the auto-hold button works fine from the home screen, but not from the reversing camera.

Re: api compatible wall chargers ?

The real WTF to me is why chargers need an API at all - why isn't stuff like SoC made available to them through the charging cable?!

Re: api compatible wall chargers ?

There *is* a VW API. There's even a Python library to drive it. Not sure why Ohme say they can't use it. I've been playing with it on my laptop and can successfully read the SoC, turn on the air con, etc. Not as capable as I'd like (doesn't appear to be a way to edit the charging times, etc.) but it...

Re: Reversing speed

I'll try disabling auto-hold, although I imagine that would make it impossible to manoeuvre on hills? I'm not really having a problem with auto-hold itself, just that the minimum speed the car wants to go in reverse with feet off everything is pretty fast for manoeuvring in a tight space!
