Last night I could not activate the ACC for 25 minutes, all that came up was ACC is Decativated.

I touched the on/off button on the Steering wheel, the car gave an audible click, touched Set, driver display showed "ACC is deactivated", tried repeatedly still no functioning. The yellow ACC not available symbol was not showing on the driver display.

On page 332 of the manual it gives a number of reasons why the yellow symbol would be lit up (ACC not available), most of these refer to the radar sensor but it doesn't tell you where the radar sensor is on the car - I guess it is somewhere on the lower front of the car (behind VW badge?). It was dry clear night, front of car was perfectly clean, no fittings to car since ACC last worked.

After stopping to check the car 3 times, on the third restart the ACC started working - hurrah.

Is this likely to have been an intermittent hardware error, or a known software error, or just a case of switching it on / off as the IT Crowd would suggest?

After the first day, the 'ACC is deactivated' notice now always comes up. I presume it is a software issue, but annoying as had a long drive where it would have been useful. Software update anyone?

I think I’ve had this error but only briefly, never in an extended repeated fashion as you describe. Sounds like it could well be in the mix of the software issues, it’s strange how things manifest differently for so many people.

The radar sensor is behind the front bumper, however there are a wealth of other sensors some of which will be employed for cruise control, so a hardware fault is not impossible. Look at the schematics here: https://evflux.pro/id3-sensors/ (not all are applicable to the 1st)

Thanks for the link - good to understand where all the sensors are, helps to understand how the ACC is working and why it reacts in certain situations.

This morning the car is displaying a white symbol, the first symbol on page 18 of the manual, "Front Assist is starting up", so no ACC on a very short journey.

Is this normal? Has anyone noticed, how long Front Assist normally takes to start-up?
