Hi all,

My Octopus Flux tariff gives me 3 hours of cheap rate electricity between 02:00 and 05:00 which is used to charge the house batteries (30kWh) and the incoming supply can cope with charging my EV at the same time. My usual (Friday only) work drive is 60 miles and takes 16+kWh (30% of 58kWh battery) at this time of year with mainly motorway and fast 'A' road driving. I can charge that back up to 80% in the 3 hour window with my 7.4kW EV charger, but wondered how to charge it if the battery was at a much lower charge level like 20%. Can I just leave the ID3 plugged in for a few days so it gets the 02:00 to 05:00 3 hour charge on consecutive days without touching anything ?

Settings are:

ID3: Set to charge as soon as you plug it in.
EV charger: Set to charge only between 02:00 and 05:00.

It definitely works for one day, but will it work for multiple days ? With the mindset of "What could possibly go wrong" and "Let's find out" I will be trying this tonight from 80% to 100% (Android app setting - car is untouched since Friday afternoon). Yes I know 100% is not advised, but this is a test

It will definitely work for multiples start/stop charges but I don't know whether there is any sort of timeout function after that long. My guess is it'll work, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it.

Well it worked. The LED next to the charging port had gone out, but the car started charging at 02:00 when the EV charger schedule started, and the LED started slowly flashing green. That's useful, as the Octopus Flux tariff is for my solar PV and battery set up, so being able to charge the EV within that 3 hour period is seriously good.

I'm looking at pv battery currently and the battery interests me more than the pv tbh, I'm looking at around 8 panels on the roof if they will fit and a tesla powerwall 3 via octopus as well as the cosy 6 instead of our wet electric central heating system.
We average around 20-30 kw per day which can hit 60Kw if charging the car after a long trip.

Is intelligent go the better option than flux with this setup as with the battery and pv combined I would imagine my cost would be down to around 5 to 6pence per KW? My current per kw averages around 20pencer per Kw.
