New delivery: Rattle sound

Hi all!

I've now taken delivery of my new ID3 Max - it rides great, the cabin is super peaceful and it's ticked the boxes of what I've been looking for.

One downside, amongst the cabin silence I'm hearing a rattle sound come from the rear of the car - almost like a static/scratchy sound. I'll investigate further but wondering if anyone has had a similar issue?

Check the void under the boot floor to make sure one of the tools isn't loose and rolling around in there.

Because it's so quiet you hear even the smallest of noise. I uncovered a couple of coins in the back seat that rattled and as above mentioned by an almost neighbour (being a Smoggy) anything loose in the void echoes quite loudly. I had to reposition my granny charger because of this.

I’ve got a Max and despite all it’s other problems, it doesn’t have any rattles. When it behaves it’s a great car to drive, in my opinion the dynamic suspension and different steering setup, make a massive difference.

I base this on having driven a first edition for 2 months, prior to getting the Max 10 days ago.

I hope yours is better behaved than mine - sadly it looks like mine is heading down the rejection route.

Thanks for the input all, I only seem to hear it on certain road surfaces, I'll keep an eye/ear out to see if it fades away or continues!

It could be the surrounding plastic on the rear window. I had this, and had also read this on the 1st Movers Facebook group. It could be quite annoying on certain road surfaces.
I fixed this up myself with some anti rattle felt tape and the VW dealer tidied it up when doing the 2.1 update. They did mention ordering a replacement part but the felt tape does the job and is not visible.

That's good to know! I'll have a look once I can get someone to be in the back seat whilst I drive :)

I think hunting down rattles in cars will eventually send me mad. I try not to listen for them now, but it’s really hard when the car is so quiet otherwise. I have an occasional rattle coming from somewhere in the back. I fancy it’s the offside rear seatbelt buckle rubbing on something but it’s hard to be sure. I turn up the volume on Spotify and try not to think about it.

I'm 10 days into my ID3 Max and each journey I take the creaking noise coming from the HUD unit is getting louder and louder. Must be plastic rubbing on plastic but can't pinpoint the cause. Anyone else experienced this? My local dealer has offered to check it out. Their appointment offering? 4 weeks time!

Yep we have a Tour and have an annoying dashboard creaking noise which came in permanently after 10 mins from cold. I pinpointed it to the HUD screen warming up. Booked it into dealer and they found 2 mounting screws missing that hold the HUD in. Came back but now another loud creaking noise from the dash. Booked into dealer in 5 weeks time to look at that. Also got a corroded heated rearscreen to replace, a leaking rear reflector in the hatchback, intermittent GPS and drivers door wing mirror/window/lock controls that don't operate every 2 or 3 trips.

Hmm. I guess I should count myself lucky then! So far, anyway.

I had a rattle. It was from the charging cable in the boot. Cured after I put the cable in its bag.

I think I have the same rattle you are describing, but it isn't permanent. Very noticeable when going downhill on crap roads.

Had one issue with mirrors not unlocking, but turning it on and off resolved that.

All the best

Andreas

A rear Rattle has been driving me mad for months, slowing getting worse, tried everything mentioned but to no avail. However I have found the source!, under the car there are plastic protection panels, they are fastened by torx screws, one was working loose so the plastic 'skid' protection simply flapped generating the rattling sound which propagated into the car's interior. Just driven 200 miles all quiet!!

I had a rattle from rear of the car which I eventually tracked it back to the “fuel flap”.

The sun shade for the glass roof on my Family pro has a rattle that comes from the rear when it's closed only. One for the dealership when I take it for it's first service. I've also got an issue with the SAT nav when on sub zero days where it occasionally gets the location wrong which is down right dangerous on motorways when it suddenly decides you're driving along a 30 mph road on the side of the motorway and it slows rapidly. It's hasn't gone wrong for ages now it's warmer.
