Hi all. We have been with Ecotricity for years and we are going to switch to their EV plus economy 7 tariff. They quoted 11.5p per kWh a few weeks ago for economy 7. This feels amazing. Charging overnight with green electricity at such an attractive rate. I’m sure it won’t stay at 11.5p this winter given what’s going on but it will be a lot cheaper than standard rate electricity. Is anyone else with Ecotricity?

i did look at that tariff but it seemed more expensive compared to others, i recall the standing charge was almost 40p a day?

Octopus Go Faster for me - 25p standing charge, 15p kWh and 5p kWh between 8:30 and 12:30 - seems to be working great for our usage style so far.

+1 for Octopus Go from us here too. 25p standing charge 5p/kWh 0030-0430 and 13.8p all other times. No clue why ours is cheaper than yours! Regional variation maybe?

I recommend Octopus Go too. Yes charges are different between areas but I think the difference here is that Lammy is on Go Faster where you have choice of cheap hours for slightly more than Go where its fixed at 00.30 to 4.30 for cheap rate. You have to speak to them for Go Faster as its not on website - or wasn't when I signed up

i was on GO then moved to GO Faster... the unit cost didn't change its always been 15p peak. I think it is regional differences - i am in North West England

the cheap times on go faster only change the cost of the off peak dependant on how long you get it for - the other unit cost remained the same, or at least that was my experience!

I have my Electric Juice card all ready for the arrival of the Tour, whenever it turns up. Apparently there’s a standard 5% discount applied to Ionity charges too, which makes that only slightly less eyewatering 😊 It’ll likely be my default RFID card too for starting charges.

Is that 5% discount on Ionity applied to the We Charge 0.45p cost though? That would mean authenticating with both accounts?

Ecotricity has green electricity and is investing heavily in green gas too so that’s a big draw for me. Final price for economy 7 is 10.7p per kWh. Not bad and I trust Ecotricity’s environmental ethics and claims

Octopus have just jacked up prices for their Go tariff. I signed up to Octopus a week ago on the 15p perKw day time / 5p overnight and now they have reneged on this and want to charge me 23p perKw which comes into effect for new customers on the 14th Oct. I’ve raised a complaint as they are not honouring the deal I signed up to. I thought they treated their customers right.

Fair play to you. Far better to be happy with your supplier choice than chase the cheapest.

Overnight is still 5p Kw on the Octopus Go which is fair enough just don’t like being enticed onto a deal only for them to change the deal to a more expensive on once you have moved across.

That's very bad form :-( If you're on Twitter, tweet Greg (the CEO/MD) and ask him to wade in; there are plenty of examples of folks getting issues unstuck that way.

At the rate electricity pricing is going Octopus will have to prise my 13.8p/5.0p Go tariff from my cold, dead hands.

Finally while I appreciate this is anecdata and won't be everyone's experience, Octopus have been by far the best energy supplier I've ever had. As a recent example my "smart" meter has been out of action since March 2021 due to a broken firmware update from the meter manufacturer being applied by the DCC, which meant Octopus couldn't pull meter data. They were perfectly within their contractual rights to move me off Go as the smart meter wasn't now smart through absolutely no fault of their own, but didn't. As they were unable to bill me they haven't charged me anything for electricity for the last 6 months, and when the smart meter started working again Octopus have put extra work unasked into recovering the stored meter reads for the last 6 months and then billing me at the Go tariff rather than just grabbing a meter read and billing me at standard variable for the "gap" when the meter firmware prevented meter reads happening. I'm sure this kind of quiet customer focus happens in other providers, but it hasn't been my own experience, and I've used a lot of providers over the years.

Also my experience: Octopus have been by far the best energy company to deal with, and were exemplary when they installed an isolator switch, smart meters and EV charge point on the same day.

If you're feeling masochistic, you can always join Scottish Power (we were forced onto them when Tonic went bust) and you'll find out why they get 1* on TrustPilot with reviews (like mine) which start with "If I could award zero stars....". Transferred to Octopus ASAP and so far haven't regretted it.

Was it a fixed rate deal? If not, they can do what they like with the prices. I believe they don’t have exit fees? If that is still so, you can move to someone else. Good luck with that though.

Yes according to their website the Go tariff is fixed for 12 months. Others on this forum that have Octopus Go can confirm this hopefully.

Or perhaps the OP isn't in a position to start using the GO element until after 14th Oct because smart meter isn't set up/working properly yet?

Octopus have been pretty good with me even though my meter and charger installation didn't go too smoothly and required intervention from the electricity board.

That might be the case but my account talks to the fact that I’ll be moving to the OC GO tariff and at the time of signing up - I did so on the cheaper rates as detailed on their website. It’s no different to ordering & agreeing a deal / price for an ID3 and 10 days later VW jack up their prices and you are asked to pay the increased price. Most folks on the forum would take issue with that and tell VW to ….
