Thought this might be of some interest as it’s likely to be a major competitor to the ID3.
The Renault Megane EV pricing has just been released

I was outline interested in the techno, mainly because I want ACC. The starting price is £38,495!!!

Are they having a laugh?

This is the new reality, and one that’s here for years.

Yep. But it’s got those essential 20” rims🙄
Approaching £40k for a pretty average spec Renault Megane is a bit daft tbh.
I guess they think people will go gooey eyed because it has a Google infotainment lolz.

On a similar vein, I saw the pricing for the new Kia Niro EV today... for the top spec with travel assist it's £40.5k and the next spec down, with less kit than an ID.3 Family, costs £39k. Bonkers. And some people consider it the value option!

At the moment they are getting a bit too close to Ionic5, EV6 and M3 territory (although I guess all of those will be going up in price soonish(?))
Just adds to the anti EV bandwagon and leaves a 2030 deadline looking doubtful imho…

Yes I saw that.
I’m really lucky I got in the EV market at a near optimal time, I still can make the leap to a new one. My brother waited too long and has now basically given up.

The 2030 deadline will probably get moved up given the proportion of EV orders to ICE orders. The aim of the deadline is to stop the influx of new ICE cars - affordability of EV’s is irrelevant to that aim.

It is relevant because there has to be a market for new car sales for manufacturers (and consumers). If new EV’s are out of reach due to their price new ICE cars will have to be available past 2030.
Anyway we digress….

I’ll be ringing Renault in the morning to cancel my ‘looksee’ priority down payment.

Just looking at the finance examples for the Megane - those residuals are very ambitious for a Renault, at 53.4% RRP retained at 3 years. Will anyone really expect that? I wonder wether it has battery heating - i'm presuming that the drivetrain will be borrowed from or co-developed with Nissan.

Audi S3 - because I hate rapid charging for long distance driving.
