Hmm lots of stories about cars failing the 2.4 update and people are unhappy with our incompetence again.. Quick, get Battery Life to release a video with some random positive news.. that will deflect from our ineptness...

I've long been saying that I didn't think 3.x was coming OTA until 2023 at the very earliest, but at the rate of 2 of these 2.4 upgrades a week for each dealer in the UK I think VW owners might be experiencing the heat death of the Universe before 3.x rolls out over-the-air.
I think you have. I think I'd almost of been happier if they just said, we can't fix the older cars but going forward we've learned from it.. They are dangling this software carrot in front of us like donkeys and we're eagerly trotting up to grab the carrot only for VW to suddenly grab the carrot and shove it up the Donkey's @##£ like some cruel teenage trick.

They said in one of the many announcements that the 12v battery was needed because the 3.0 software update was so large it would flatten the 12v battery during install. Why not send out a 12v Charger and tell people to plug it in for the duration of the install.. would have been easier.

The main German ID3 forum is reporting quite a few 2.4 update problems. It seems to be quite fiddly requiring dealer IT expertise and the very detailed following of installation instructions.

Mine went in yesterday for the 2.4 update having been new from May this year.
It was meant to be returned same day but was delayed overnight but is now ready for collection following successful install.
The dealer did ring beforehand and said they have had success but offered the option to delay due to some reports of complications.

My car was booked in for next Monday...for just one day

"Hello, I'm just ringing to ensure that you have all the hardware etc to do the update"
"We're postponing your update, we've had some problems and are practising on the fleet cars, we'll be in touch, possibly end of August, but we might need your car for 3-4 days"
"OK, so when were you planning to let me know you'd cancelled my appointment?"
"I've been given the job of going through the bookings, you'd have received a call or email sometime over the weekend"

So, my local VW dealer living down to my expectations.....

Received email about update and contacted dealer about two weeks ago. Originally got date for 21st July stating update would take 5 to 6 hours or possibly longer. Next day received call stating technician would not be available for possible second day update, could I reschedule for Monday/Tues 25th and 26th. So far dealer, Specialist Cars Kirkcaldy, have done everything right - early date for update, early warning of possible need for second day, early reschedule etc. Fingers crossed that I will continue to be so happy with dealer.

So took my ID3 into dealer to have the battery and 2.4 update done. Friday 22nd July. Inchcape VW Swindon. DEAD.
After being in the workshop all day I get a call at around 4 saying ‘we’re really sorry sir the software didn’t take and it’s stuck in the workshop, we have been on the phone to support who are trying to help and it may be a fried module, we will know more next week’
To be fair to the guys they just chucked me a loan car and will deliver mine when ready.
Car has been erroring for a while now. All codes randomly appearing on dash. Locked me out last week every error code came up and was stuck on drive, doors locked and can’t engage N or drives. Also had a drive screen replaced already as that fried. Car reminds me of an old windows PC sometimes ‘I’m ready when I feel like it’.
They can keep it I have a new car on order.

I nearly went for a Born. Thinking logically, wouldn't it be right to assume that whatever the Born's software is, then the ID range is heading for the same. And if the Born's is OK, then eventually the ID's will be OK? Better late than never?

Agreed. I haven’t seen anything much good or bad about the born software. I’m just assuming it’s based on the same platform being made in the same factory.
But logic aside this time I thought with my eyes “ooh this looks cool”. Sold. Hahaha. The seats and interior in the born were so much nicer. And the drivers screen doesn’t have an empty box on the rhs.

The Born app doesn’t seem to work (at all) from what I’ve read.

I test drove a Polestar2 and then decided to upgrade my life to a tour 😁 it’s a nice car - but I thought the id3 was quieter, hd a bigger boot and more room in the back (despite being 20-30cm shorter). The touchscreen and interior is better quality than the id3 - but I’m happy with the VW.

It'll be on 3.0. The interface seems quite quick until you intergrate it with the pile of dog shite that is the Cupra app. You might want to resist the temptation to add the app until they've got it working properly.

Are you waiting long for your Born, or is it built and on its way?

We jumped on 2 x e-Boost V2 with L-tech packs, in stock, in Glacial White and Aurora Blue, to replace our 2 x ID3s. No regrets at all. The additional power of the E-Boost won't knock your socks off, but it is noticeable.

That was lucky finding stock. The born is all ordered but 3-6 month wait. I still don’t have a firm build date. I am still looking around to see if I can find one available in uk in that Color and spec no luck yet.
I was hoping this update 2.4 would stop my frustration in the ID3 until the born arrives.

Figured I’d report my experience too. ID.3 Tour, Registered in May 2022, delivered with 2.3.

Took my ID.3 in to get the Heads Up display fixed (it’s never worked), and they also agreed to do the recall work for 2.4 at the same time.

The new battery and 2.4 have been successfully installed. They had my car for 2 days.

Work was done at VW Tamworth (Johnson’s). Great experience.

HUD still isn’t fixed tho, looks like we might need a new part, waiting for the “master technician” to return from his holidays! Booked back in on the 3rd August.

Less luck and more lack of the usual procrastination I usually go through when buying a new car. Just found what I wanted on Autotrader when the launch stock was coming through, and was willing to travvel for the few E-boosts around.

There are no new E-boosts on autotrader now, there are some new V1s and V2s in 204ps selling for RRP, in stock, but there are also some used ones up for £3 -4k more than RRP.

Got a call yesterday from the dealer, saying to expect a letter from VW about upgrade and battery replacement. They are currently taking bookings for this - from November.

I got a letter this week for both ID3s to upgrade, and to rell meI need an annual service doing on them - they think I still have them and seem oblivious to the 2 year interval. I also got a letter from the local Audi garage telling me the warranty was about to expire for the A4 that my ID3 replaced.
