Hi,

I picked up my ID.3, due to Covid handover was basically gives us the cash, here are the keys and enjoy.

So I was checking in the manual and it shows how to use a tyre jack to remove a wheel, removing the wheel locking nuts and talks about a Breakdown Set to achieve a temporary repair.

I have looked in the compartment under the rear of the boot, but only found the towing bolt, first aid kit and fluorescent waistcoat.

What breakdown items should the car have come with and where should they be located?

Thanks, Simon

Mine didn't come with a spare or jack. I thing they are supposed to be run-flat tyres?

That's all we have got. Checked with the dealer and it's all we should have.

The tyres are not run flat: there's an inflation kit in the boot well. Best of luck with reading the instructions on the pump and then understanding what they are telling you!

I have no inflation kit in the boot well, just a big empty space with a tow bolt and that is all.

At the hand over I was told no spare, tyres are run flat. I don't have an inflation kit. Obviously this is something we need to clarify after Christmas

Tyres are not run flat, regardless of the brand they have a technology which seals punctures up to 5mm in size across the tread surface - there are specific approved tyres from Continental, Goodyear, and Bridgestone.

We didn't get any of those items either.
However i have 3rd party seal/inflate device and a jack left over from a previous car.
What i don't have is a locking wheel nut adapter.
Will be on to VW next year

Does anyone know if you can get a space saver spare wheel for the ID3?

Useful to know the tyres aren't run flat! I didn't get an inflation kit - and I'm sure I didn't get a locking wheel nut adapter - I'll check tomorrow...

Found the Locking Nut Adapter, Towing Eye, Hi Vis Jacket and First Aid kit.

I have added Jack, Wheel Wrench, TyreWeld Aerosol, and Hole Plugging kit.

Unless you have a spare wheel then you either call Rescue or at best might make a few miles to a garage,

Space-saver spare wheels for VW for Golf etc are widely available (less than £100) but need to cheek the PCD and Offset are suitable for ID.3. Also will take up room in the boot as there is no storage well due to batteries.

Thanks very for all your comments, I appear to have all the components that the ID.3 comes with and my confusion is because the manual documents things that you could have with the car.

I am disappointed that bearing in mind the cost of the car things that used to just be supplied are now considered as extras, perhaps I just need to get used to this as VW are just trying to have less environmental impact by not supplying things which are hardly ever used.

 I hadn't recognised the locking nut adapter as it didn't match the wheel nut, I have now realised the wheel nuts have covers on them.

I bought a 18" Golf space saver wheel off eBay for £50 - it's now sitting in my garage. I had the misfortune of getting a side wall puncture and the SealTech doesn't fix that, but the AA man who came to rescue me said that they can always get your car home and if you have a spare wheel at least you are mobile.

The replacement tyre was £245 from ATS. I have since discovered that you can buy them online from Black Circle tyres. This is the one you need:

Roppenheimer Did you check the PCD and centre hole size and the offset before you purchased the golf spacesaver?

Have you actually tried fitting the spacesaver yet? Does it foul anything?

Have you got 18 inch wheels on your ID3 if not you are going to hammer the diff. Its not designed or specd to handle different sized wheels on the rear axle. Front wont damage diff but steering will be weird.

Looking into a spare wheel for our Tour which is currently sat in Emden waiting to get on a boat.

The closest size I have found for the factory fit 215/50/19" (alloy) wheels is:

145/80/18” from a VW Tiguan (2007-2020) part No. 5N0601027A
This would give a speedo error of just 1.22%, my factory fit Superb spare is over 5% difference!
On the 18" ID.3 wheels this would be a 1.69% difference.

I wouldn't worry about a 1.22% difference. The difference between a brand new 8mm tread tyre and a barely legal 1.6mm tread is 1.83%, unless VW are insisting you replace 2 tyres if you get 1 puncture.

Would be more worried about offset and the wheel fouling brake calipers/hubs.
