Just wondered if anybody has been able to use the wireless charging dock without your phone getting hot and the phone stopping charging ?
For me I've had this 'feature' both on my my own ID3 and on a courtesy car ID3 I've had for the last weel or two. Both cooked my phone.
I am hoping it is because I have one of those Samsing Galaxy Fold phones and that maybe the ID3 doesn't like those...so maybe I won't have the problem with a future phone ?
Wireless charger cooking phone
I get the same overheating when trying to charge my iPhone. Even when I use cable and usb port the phone gets hot when I use apple play as I prefer using Google Maps instead of the built-in satnav. I have to lay it on to of the slots, to get air all round the iPhone. Even then I have to stop charging sometime, unplugging the cable, as ApplePlay cuts out when phone is too hot.
When I had a Golf SV I could never get the wireless charging to work. Didn‘t have overheating problems with a wireless charging cradle I bought separately for my VW transporter. But there is nowhere sensible to attach something like that in the ID3.

OK ....so maybe it's the combination of wireless charging + using Apple Play/ Andorid Auto both of which will be resource hungry on the phone.OmaSyl wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:00 pm I get the same overheating when trying to charge my iPhone. So I will have to try wireless charging the phone when not using it for Android Auto and see if it still cooks it.
PS > If I charge it and using Android Auto but using a cable it does get a bit warm but not that bad and the charging does not cut off. I should add that I am in the UK where the ambient temperature is...shall we say...less than warm.

I've tried with and without case....but suspect that with it being a folding phone the two sides clasped together (each containing a battery I think) probably does not help.
Yes, that is it. It should be made clear that you can't wireless charge and expect to use Apple Play / Android Auto at the same time.Batterdry500 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:06 pm [OK ....so maybe it's the combination of wireless charging + using Apple Play/ Andorid Auto both of which will be resource hungry on the phone.

I do this a lot. The only time I've had an issue was when the ambient temperature was about 32 degrees C one day last July. My Pixel 7 (charging wirelessly; connected via Android Auto) overheated and switched itself off. Apart from that, it's been fine. The phone is warm to the touch when I pick it up but that's always the case (in the car or not) if its processors have been busy.Bengeo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 5:15 pmYes, that is it. Are you using Android Auto to navigate? When I've tried Apple CarPlay to navigate with an iPhone wirelessly charging it has got very hot.

My iPhone 13 Pro sometimes will stop charging because it is too hot but Apple Car Play always works and has never cut out. I have a third party MagSafe charger I use to charge my phone at home and it never gets hot from that. I think VW need to improve the quality of the tech they use.

Yes, I always use Waze on my phone to navigate. I find it has the best combination of navigation, traffic information and speed camera alerts.Bengeo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 7:22 pmBillTheButcher wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:38 amI do this a lot.
