Hi, I was wondering could anyone shed light on the image attached. I was driving along at approximately 30mph and felt a pull to the left, felt like a flat tyre. The passenger front left was completely flat with a hole approximately 10mm in the side wall. The passenger rear left wa also flat but looked like a tear, sorry no photo. Driving conditions were good, dry straight road with no visible debris. The weather conditions were extreme for the region with a record high temperature of 29 degrees. Could the external air temperature affect the tyres ?

I can see from the state of the wheels you've curbed those, can guarantee you've damaged the tyre whilst doing so. I remember an old neighbour of mine used to curb his car when parking all the time, had three blowouts.

That’s not actually a ‘blowout’, the hole is the result of physical damage, the cause of which is most likely but not certainly from hitting a curb. A ‘blowout’ of which I have seen many, both as they happen and the aftermath, are caused by under inflation. This causes excessive movement in the tire wall, generating heat and internal belt damage until the whole wall fails in a spectacular, sudden and extremely loud manner.

The wheel scraping adjacent to the tyre hole is severe and deep. At least from an aesthetic point of view, that damage is so deep, that couldn't be relathed in a repair to keep the diamond cut finish.

There's further tyre scuffing all around and less severe wheel scraping further around, whether that's from other incidents or the flat tyre getting chewed up in the time it took to stop, I couldn't say.

It's far less common for rear left wheels to be scuffed up than front left.

That one wheel looks like it was clouted at speed and the OP is very fortunate that it went at 30mph rather than 70mph. For the other tyre to have gone too, makes me wonder if the whole left side of the car has bounced off a high kerb while driving rather than parking.

After a clout like that, the wheel probably has a minor buckle and I would definitely get the full 4 wheel later realignment done.

So many people can't or won't parallel park - my next-door neighbouts (both the husband and wife).launch their T-Roc up the kerb every time they park.

Looking again, I'm surprised to see a whole chunk of tyre missing to the cords, rather than just being split. I suppose it's possible that the brief time of running on flat has chewed up the wheel against the road.

Curb = US
Kerb = UK

I’d be surprised if the tyre has not suffered some damage given how the wheel looks.

The only other possibility is that the OP has had a run in with 007's DB5.

Ticket issued by the grammar police, you'd have been looking at a custodial sentence if you'd said "tire" rather than tyre. :lol:

Just don't mention the size of the trunk or bumping up onto sidewalks to park.

I work with an American from Texas who's been here 25 years and talks Geordie slang like "bairn", "Gan y'em", "howay", "shan" etc in his Texas accent - very odd
