We placed our ID.3 order with the dealership on Monday last week, and chased the dealership today for an order number from VW. The dealership is saying it’ll take a further week to get that order number, so two weeks from placement to factory “confirmation”.

Is two weeks from ordering to getting an order number reasonable ? We’re ordering through Motability, and my suspicion is that the dealership is prioritising finance/cash sales as Motability sales apparently net them little profit. We’ve already been told in the space of a week that the likely availability of the car is January 2022 now, which is a month on from what we got told last week, so I am keen to get in the queue asap!

Should I be pushing harder for that order number, or is two weeks “normal” ? Dealership is part of a large national chain, so wasn’t expecting this to be more than a couple days.

Looks like there quota has been met and they will place the order at beginning of next month. So I think your dealer is not telling you the truth somehow as I ordered my car on the 1/7/21 and sat with the sales guy as he placed the order in to the system and as soon as it went in an order number was generated and he printed the order off for me and in the first column on the left is the order number.
The order did not show on the MY Volkswagen tracking until the next day.

My dealer not telling me the truth is what I was expecting, truth be told. Your order experience is exactly what I’d expected - order placed, and an order number is the VW basic acknowledgement of that order. Not having an order number for weeks is basically telling me that the order hasn’t been placed at all.

Sigh.

Is the 'order number' the same as the 'Order ID', as per this one (pixelated)?

Makes sense - I guess I can't figure out whether I'm in the queue yet either!

Dealers are obliged to give you the order number so that customers can track their vehicle. Mind you at the moment its like watching paint dry.

I have my order number but how do you track the order. I’ve logged into the my VW dashboard but seem to be going round in circles.

This bit, isn't it? Order number == commission number.

I assume I'm in the same boat as the OP - my order went in around a week ago now, but didn't get an order number and haven't seen a soft search or similar appear on my credit report yet (for VWFS/PCP)

Also assuming it might magically appear on the 1st of the month.

OK thank you, I’ll give it a try. Do you have any idea how long after getting the order number before anything appears?

On the day of ordering I got my order number. The VW tracker would not accept the number that same day but the next day it accepted it and was showing on the VW tracker stating stage 2 "with the factory" and a footnote "Your order is with the factory and is currently being scheduled for production."

Did you do PCP?

I've not done PCP before, so I'm unsure as to how long that should take to process, and/or if it delays the production of an order number.

The contract of sale is the order form. At the same time the salesman will ask you to fill in the PCP finance approval request.
As soon as your salesman submits your documents and you are approved they order. This happened a day after I signed the order form and finance approval documents.

You only need to actually sign for the actual PCP finance to start once the car comes into the garage, normally 1-7 days before you pick up. For me it was all electronic signing online by email alert.

Fair enough - I have done all that, and I have an order sheet from the dealer, but haven't heard anything since (that was last week), so I'll suspect they are delaying for the figures?

Contact your salesman. If your finance was approved it will be ordered ASAP as the garage doesn't want to wait a minute normally. However I have found many salesman give poor feedback, perhaps they don't like to hassle the customer, or perhaps once you have signed the order its legally binding, so they start thinking about their next deals.
I constantly hassled my salesman, often I would get through to another salesman at the retailer, and to be fair they were always very helpful and looked in in computer to give me as much info as they could

I have just spoken to my dealer as regards to this and he says he knows of no problems with the website but if the order number is one that has been cancelled before it was given to you it will not show for some time.
