Tap volume + and let go. The volume keeps increasing until at max.
Tap the minus and it keeps decreasing until off.
Do this a few times and occasionally it works as it should.

Anybody found this?

Yes I found exactly the same thing, very frustrating / distracting - either seems to go up very quickly or go down very quickly - several attempts to get it right all the time paying less attention to driving.

Swiping rather than tapping works for me.

Is the behaviour the same when using the the strip under the screen as well as when using the buttons on the steering wheel?

The strip under the screen is ok but not easy to use when driving. I suppose I'm just too old fashioned expecting buttons to work when you press them. Never did like swiping.

You can swipe on the buttons on the steering wheel. I do that both for the stereo and for controlling the cruise control, found it a lot easier than using the buttons.
