Yes the 30p standard rate is (I’d guess) their forecast of what the price capped rate will be in April. Widely rumoured to be a 50% increase in 20ish p.

We moved house in June so had to sign up for a new energy contract. Best we could manage was 18.5p per kWh with British Gas, but that’s locked in until March 2024. We didn’t think it made sense going for a variable tariff because the peak unit cost was considerably more and both my wife and I work from home, so consumption doesn’t reduce at peak times, plus we’ll likely only be charging once a week, if that.

Agreed, come April that will probably be the normal price and 7.5p will feel cheaper than the 5p did last year.

Our new is3 comes early March. Called octopus last week for advice and they said sit tight until after winter, and to call us around April. Hoped things might have settled down a little then.

I think my favourable rates run out in May, currently 3.87p per kwh gas and 15p/5p per kWh electricity with Go.

We got a new boiler in Dec, when our 20 year old one was destroyed by storm Arwen loosening our guttering and directing rainwater into our boiler flue. I'm hoping the new one (Bosch Worcester RX27, condensing boiler) is a bit more efficient than the old one, but won't get anywhere near offsetting the doubling the unit cost of gas.

My current Octopus contract ends in mid February. They have Quoted me 5p for 4 hours (night) and 24.45p the rest of the day on Octopus Go, 19.11p standing charge. I'm having Solar panels and battery storage fitted next month, so that should make a big difference.

At 30p per kW that means my heatpump might as well be plugged into a Gridserve public charger 😳 although I expect all those charging costs are going to jump as well making 7.5p seem the new "cheap". Even this big hike in prices will still be less than I spend on fuel for the ICE each month so, when the ID3 turns up we will have roughly similar expenses as now but be greener. Painful though! This new price for GO electricity is "only" a 75% increase whereas gas prices have increased more albeit from a much lower starting point.

I looked at that, as I'm another in the boat who was literally just about to switch to Go before the latest price rise. I'm currently on the price cap. I think Intelligent is still just for Teslas at the moment though. Both Ohme (I have an Ohme charger) and VW are listed as coming-soon partners.

Being on Go (September 21 rates) rather than Agile saved my father £600 in December alone, and £530 in November. While he is a very high electricity user, I can’t imagine Agile being a sensible choice for most people at the rates they’re charging.

Don’t forget the Octopus Go rates are fixed prices for 12 months and with a large increase in costs due it’s surely worth moving to Go?

I was with Octopus on a fixed 1yr term for both electrics and gas. It was about to come to an end so last week I changed it to Octopus Go and they didnt have a problem with it. It was a really smooth process.
