I never actually placed an order for an ID.3, but at the beginning of last week, after giving up hope based on the long lead times, and looking at alternatives available now, I stumbled upon a leasing company (First Vehicle Leasing) that had a single Volkswagen Id.3 Electric Hatchback 150kW Family Pro Performance 58kWh 5dr Auto, Moonstone Gray with no apparent options listed. Decent price, and available immediately. I asked, and they said it was a cancelled order, that they did not bother to cancel because they were pretty sure they could shift it. They just needed to swap the name of the person ordering it with the dealer. I moved quickly knowing it would get snapped up.

Anyway, I have the registration, and that converted to a VIN (on the VW website when you enter the registration to look at the user manual). The VIN is WVWZZZE1ZNPxxxxx , and by my reckoning the N means it was built in 2022, which means it “should” be the MY22.5 spec with the 3.0 software.

Is that a good assumption to make? Or would I have had to actually know the order number to find the build start date? Any way of telling?

In the meantime, I am preparing myself to be slightly disappointed if it turns up as MY22 with s/w 2.3.

I will update this when it arrives at some point tomorrow, in the meantime, place your bets!

Just from observing the delivery thread, I think that any Life or Family arriving in the country will be 22.5, any Tour or Max would still be 22.

Out of curiosity, why would N mean its been built in 2022? I would presume its been built recently but I don't get the reasoning for thinking the N in the VIN means its from 2022.

The tenth digit of the VIN indicates the year of manufacture. 'N' is 2022, 'M' was 2021, 'L' was 2020 as is my understanding. The eleventh digit indicates the place of manufacture. 'P' being Zwickau if I'm right.

I guess that means when the build was finished and when the VIN was applied, even though the build could have started last year?

Thats the key question - whether the VIN is given when the build starts or ends... My money is on the earlier - but I have no idea really!

Interested in hearing the results of this delivery, another lease company currently have a selection of Pro Max and Pro S Tour models that currently have build week 40 but they are not able to advise if these would recieve the product enhancements since they were ordered probably 10 months ago. Both standard metallic cars, few colour choices, but I'm torn mostly because of the allows or lack of on the Max vs the upgrades that are standard on the Tour model...

Ahhh, interesting, I didn't realise the VIN was so detailed in the info it gives.

It has arrived.

MY22.5, and S/W version 3.0.

:-)

Have not had time to play with it.. work calls. But my initial attempt to register with we connect failed, and then it did a s/w update. Have not tried again.

Thanks all.

Thanks for the update, I'm guessing that would bode well for a build week 40 + of a Max or Tour model, can't imagine they would build an older spec model and how easy that would be on a production line either, now to try and decide which one before they run out!

@cornbutter Yes, the VIN encodes some information and ends in a production serial number.

In the case of the original poster: WVWZZZE1ZNPxxxxx (ID.3)

WVW = Germany, Volkswagen (Volkswagen Passenger Cars)
ZZZ = filler characters
E1 = Model ID.3
Z = check character
M = year 2022
P = Zwickau plant, Volkswagen
xxxxxx = production sequence (serial) number

Separately the vehicle data sticker also includes the engine code for the vehicle. 'EBJC' is the 62kWh battery/150kW motor for example.

Hey, check you have the WeConnectID app rather than just the WeConnect app. This stumped me for the first 24 hours haha!

Do you mean 2021 build week 40? As those were all MY22 (not 22.5).
