Our car was delivered in June and had a new battery fitted with 2.4 in July.

Has anyone had the 2.4 update without a replacement battery?
Sorry, missed this - mine is same age as yours, new battery reqd. It's everyone on 2.3.

I had the email and was able to book in to my dealership (Inchcape, Macclesfield) with no problem. The process took a day and a bit, though they tried to hold on to the car for another day because "we found another recall on this vehicle to apply some wax filler, but we had to order it in". I told them to rebook it for later, which they did. The loaner was one of those weird cars with a big stick in the middle and a button that made a noise when pressed, but I managed.

The fun started later, when first, I found the "update" had erased my stored charging location. (As an automotive engineer of 35-odd years, I know that reprogramming can and should be done with an inhale/exhale process to retain and restore user data, but I guess VW don't think their customers deserve such niceties.) I then maually restured the charging location. An hour later, it disappeared. Just like that. I tried again the following day. It stuck around for an hour or so then it vanished.

I went to the dealership and, with the technician, logged the car back into the "We" system ("We have ways of making you work?") - we added a new charging location. Drove home, waited an hour. Gone.

So the car is booked back into the dealership for its wax job and for someone to investigate this problem. I'm not holding my breath - when I asked what, exactly, the update would do in terms of load management, the technician just said "we just press the button and everything is done by Milton Keynes". Which is a roundabout way of saying "we know nothing".

On the positive side, Herbert Diess, the man who oversaw the electrification fiasco, has been got rid of. Diess-missed, maybe?

  • The weCharge app upgrade started to download and then stopped part way through. This has been reported by others and seems to resolve it self over time
  • More worryingly, my charging locations (using to set preferred charging times) were cleared when I got the car back. I did not think it was completely unreasonable given the software update but would have appreciated being warned. I have now added the location back three times (seemingly successfully) and each time the location seems to be deleted overnight. I've not seen this reported elsewhere and would welcome any suggestions!

My only suggestion is to make a stink at your VW dealership until they sort you out.

The only feedback I've seen on this dealer for other work is pretty terrible, but they claim to have updated a few ID3s without issue. 🤞!
We got our car back this pm and the update has all been completed successfully as indicated. Shows 0912 etc. I don't think there were any hiccups. They also fixed the seat for me.
Unfortunately the people who actually handed it over late in the day did not seem very knowledgeable and were convinced we needed to find a permissions menu in the app and change the settings to allow OTA updates moving forward. They couldn't find said setting in either our app or their own, so they came out to the car and looked for it there, but didn't find it. The recent wecharge update was waiting to be done again (having previously done it when we had 2.3.) Does anyone know anything about this whole permissions thing and whether we need to take any action?

Edit, in any case anyone was wondering, the process seems to have used 2-3% of the main battery from drop-off to collection. We dropped it off at 80 and got it back at 77.
I was told (a day after collecting the updated car) that I needed to re-connect to We, which can be done by the system menu. Basically logging off then on again, anf hlpeing you can remember your password, After logging on you go through a short process including "Allow" which, I believe, (re-)enables SOTA updates.

Just collected my car after update and new battery fitted. They said the update went smoothly but no way could it have been done in 1 day.

Heritage of Salisbury had the car for 2 days and gave me a courtesy car (sadly not electric) Impressed with the service and level of communication.

30 mile drive home and the only difference I can see was that the AC was switched off but only needed to be switched back on.. Will drive for a few days and report further.

I took mine back to the dealer last Thursday and demonstrated the issue to them. They didn’t keep the car but have submitted a case to the factory. I chased on Tuesday and, not unsurprisingly, they had not heard anything.

I called into my supplying dealer today, Western Volkswagen, in Edinburgh. They told me we can fit you in at the start of January for the recall work!!!!!

When I asked why when I called them 4 months ago and also contacted VW. VW said the dealer will contact you. the dealer said we need info from VW. My email last week was ignored. They areapparently responding to phone calls despite me being told to wait for them to call me.

I have an appointment in Newcastle and this is the end of a very problematical time with Western. When they did the last real for software that was to take 2 days I phones at lunchtime on the second day to see how it was going. I had arranged to drive the 50 plus miles to collect at 5 pm. Oh they said it is not complete. I asked what how they would have placated me had I wasted time and money driving to collect the car. On another occasion I took it in for a 8 am appointment. I left with the understanding I would collect is in the afternoon. On checking at 2 pm the car had not moved. Fortunately they found the fault, a non working rear door and got me the car back by 5 pm.

I will be formally complaining to both the dealer principal and VW but henceforth I will avoid this dealer in Edinburgh.

If this is common I suggest anyone reading this immediately call their dealer.

The latest update is Western have more than redeemed themselves.

The Manager called and has juggled things so my car will be done this month.
I must say therefore that well done them for listening to this customer. I am getting my faith back in main dealers.

My experiences echo some of the previous posts.

Cameron's of Perth (supplying dealer) told us the earliest they would book it in for 2.4 and battery is March 2023. A bit disgruntled, we phoned Specialist Cars in Dunfermline who were happy to book the car in for the 25th of July.

We duly dropped the car off, picked up the courtesy car, filled it with enough petrol for 2 days and headed home. Arrived home at 9.30am to get a phone call saying they could no longer perform the update and could we return to the garage.

We've tried rebooking with no success. It just shouldn't be this hard to get the recall completed.

Car back - all done and seemingly normal in my 5 minute drive home. First ID.3 that Andover had completed so they kept the vehicle overnight to check it all again in the morning which I thought was fair enough.
They even left an information card about V3 hanging from my mirror.

All in all, no complaints.

I see reading the information on version 3 that it downloads whilst driving. This might take a couple of weeks or more of our usage then.

Some dealers seem to be having more trouble than others. If you have another dealer nearby maybe try them?

Mine went in yesterday morning and collected at 5.00pm today. All seems to be working except car2X which others have said comes back after a couple of days. We charge app was missing but prompted a further update to put that back and another small update related to OTA. Battery has also been replaced but there is an issue with the battery tray so they have ordeeed that and the car will go back at some point to replace that and the two wing mirror puddle lights that have started to diffuse light all over the place.
So seems to be ok assuming car2X comes back. Other thing to note the update seems to have brought the maps up to date to 22.7. Previously the only way I could get the maps to update was to reset the car.

There are now many people who have had the update with no issue, it's not particular to VW it's more likely the dealership. If they haven't got your car, try booking into a different dealership if there is an alternative.
