I keep getting the voice control cutting in on me even when I don't say hello I'd. Is there any way of deactivating it?
Yes. Can't remember exactly where but have a search around in the vehicle menu in the car. Maybe in cockpit. You can set it so it only activates when you press the button instead of listening for the wake-up word.

I turned it off as I have a strong Scottish accent it could never understand what I was saying

It is way better with software 3.0+. Night and day. Still not as good as Google etc and I don't use it often, but you don't get half as many of those type of things as you did with 2.3.
