If nothing else, it's fascinating the lengths that they go to for testing, with the new car's guts more or less entirely hidden under a slightly modified ID.3 shell.

I don't understand why it might be called a Golf. Surely the ID3 itself is a Golf replacement with every dimension being so similar to the Golf? Shouldn't it be an ePolo or ID2?

The logic I've seen is that this will be a car smaller than a Golf on the outside but with the same interior space, whereas the ID3 is the same external size but bigger on the inside.
VW aren't average to making cars with fairly small differences between them.

I do remember reading about the ID3 when it was being announced that it was the same dimensions of a Golf but with the interior space of a Passat.

If what some mags are suggesting, this will actually be a small cross-over rather than a hatchback. But I don't think anyone (inc. VW?) know what the plans are...

Yes, I think the summary was footprint of a golf, interior space of a passat and turning circle of a polo.
