Has anyone tried any exploratory surgery of the wireless phone charging "pocket" to see if there's a simple remedy for the overheat issue? In my experience wireless charging causing the phone to overheat is almost always due to the charging coils not being in the right place for the phone.

I’m no expert but I thought the issue was caused by a combination of wireless charging and wireless CarPlay/ android auto was the challenge. Further that this was a broader issue and not just with the id3. Could be wrong though.

That is what we find - using the wireless charging and Carplay at the same time causes the overheating. We never use the wireless charging now.

I've not had a problem in previous cars with wireless charging and AA. The phone does not get hot using AA alone. It does when using wireless charging alone. I'm sure the CPU stress exacerbates the problem, but the root cause is the wireless charge pad.
